The Salt Bothy is a small coastal retreat on the Isle of Bute, similar in scale to a shepherds hut — full of character and natural materials, contemporary in feel yet quietly warm.
The Salt Bothy takes its name from the ruined tower it overlooks - an old salt pan. Seawater was once harvested and a coal fired evaporation system was used to create salt at its base. It sits at the very edge of the water on the rocks over Ascog Bay. The rocks at Ascog are also home to a large seal colony, walk along the shore to Kerrycroy and you will often see them sunbathing on rocks in the shallow water. The area is home to a wealth of wildlife including sea otters and oyster catchers.
A tactile interior, washed in soft coastal light. A wood burning stove at the heart of the bothy — warm, glowing, and quietly hypnotic on a soft Scottish evening.
An individually designed interior includes, kitchen - hob, fridge, toaster and sink, shower room, cosy kingsize bed and a seating area with a wonderful view and warming wood burning stove, plenty of natural materials and character.
Direct access to the sea. Bring a kayak or paddle board.
The bothy sits within the grounds of a converted Italianate church, overlooking a characterful old ruined salt pan, step outside and through the trees the rocks and sea await.
